UK- and EU-sanctioned tanker Leruo carries Russian diesel towards the US past Shetland, Maritime Executive reports

Leruo, a Sierra Leone-flagged products tanker under UK and EU sanctions, approached Shetland on 24 October with about 40,000 tonnes of Russian diesel loaded at Primorsk on 16 October, The Maritime Executive reports. According to the publication, the ship is signalling the US Atlantic coast "for orders", is expected in New York around 7 November, and probably crossed the UK's exclusive economic zone without being intercepted. It says two other tankers that loaded diesel at Primorsk are not sanctioned: Agioi Fanendes passed through the Skagerrak on 26 October without a declared destination, and Dolunay is signalling Alanya in Turkey. The Maritime Executive notes that the UK and EU have said their sanctions remain in place.
