US Senator Blumenthal urges Greek owner to recall tanker Agioi Fanendes and its Russian diesel
US Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote on 27 October to Eastern Mediterranean Maritime, the Greek owner of the Malta-flagged tanker Agioi Fanendes, urging it to recall the ship, which reportedly loaded almost 40,000 tonnes of Russian diesel at Primorsk and is signalling New York, gCaptain reports. Blumenthal argues that the 2022 Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act makes delivery unlawful and that Treasury's General License 135 cannot override it; Treasury maintains the arrangement is legal, according to gCaptain. He asked the company to name the cargo's seller, buyer, charterer, insurer and terminal operator by 31 October. The Maritime Executive reports that he warned discharging the cargo would amount to "an illegal transaction".
