Ukraine Caucus leaders urge US Customs to refuse entry to and seize Russian diesel cargoes
Representatives Lloyd Doggett and Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, have written to US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott urging the agency to refuse entry to and seize Russian-origin diesel, and to refer any attempted import for prosecution, Doggett's office said on 29 October. The letter names the tanker Agioi Fanendes, which it says reportedly loaded about 40,000 tonnes of diesel at Primorsk for the Port of New York and New Jersey, with arrival expected around 7 November. The lawmakers argue that Treasury's General License 135 cannot override the 2022 Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act. They also asked CBP whether it had received any direction from Treasury, the Department of Homeland Security or the White House.
