Panama strikes 107 sanctioned ships from its registry

Panama's ship registry has removed 107 vessels and is de-registering 18 more after finding them on US, EU or UK sanctions lists or raising compliance concerns, Seatrade Maritime News reports. Registry director Ramon Franco told a conference in Singapore that Panama would not be left behind on sanctions. An executive decree from October 2024 lets the Panama Maritime Authority cancel registrations unilaterally, and the registry says it now screens owners' and operators' histories as well as technical criteria before accepting ships.
