EU's 16th package adds 74 shadow fleet vessels and bans key Russian oil ports

The EU adopted its 16th sanctions package against Russia on 24 February, adding 74 vessels to its list of ships barred from EU ports and services and bringing the total to 153, the European Commission said. A new criterion allows listings of those who support the operation of unsafe oil tankers. The package imposes a full transaction ban on the oil ports of Primorsk, Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk, among others, and ends the temporary storage of Russian crude and oil products in EU ports. It also restricts exports of maritime and oil exploration software.
