G7 foreign ministers propose a Shadow Fleet Task Force with Nordic and Baltic states

G7 foreign ministers adopted a declaration on maritime security on 14 March that invites the Nordic-Baltic Eight to join a Shadow Fleet Task Force to improve monitoring and constrain shadow fleets engaged in illegal, unsafe or environmentally dangerous activity. The text says Russia has sustained its revenues by dodging the oil price cap with older, underinsured ships that switch off or spoof their AIS. It also cites North Korea's illicit ship-to-ship transfers of petroleum, and calls for wider satellite tracking and better records of ship movements.
