Finland seizes tanker Eagle S after Estlink 2 cable damage

Finnish authorities have seized the Cook Islands-flagged tanker Eagle S after the Estlink 2 power cable between Finland and Estonia was damaged on Christmas Day, USNI News reports. Police and border guards boarded the ship and took over its bridge, and police opened an investigation into aggravated criminal mischief. Four telecoms cables linking Finland with Estonia and Germany were also damaged, and the tanker is suspected of dragging its anchor across them. It was carrying 35,000 tons of unleaded petrol loaded in Russian ports and bound for Egypt. Finnish and EU authorities describe it as part of Russia's shadow fleet.
