Sanctioned LNG carrier Pioneer stores Arctic LNG 2 cargo after failing to find buyer

The LNG carrier Pioneer, which loaded the first cargo from Russia's Arctic LNG 2 project in early August, docked on 25 December at the Koryak floating storage unit in Kamchatka after a four-month voyage without finding a buyer, Bloomberg reports. The Pioneer, Arctic LNG 2 and the Koryak unit are all under US sanctions, and no cargo from the project has been delivered to a foreign port because potential buyers fear US retaliation, according to the report. Arctic LNG 2 temporarily halted production in October for lack of buyers and ice-capable vessels.
