Finnish court says it has no jurisdiction in Eagle S cable case

The Helsinki District Court ruled that it lacks jurisdiction to try the captain and two officers of the tanker Eagle S and dismissed the charges over damage to Baltic Sea cables, public broadcaster Yle reports. Prosecutors had sought prison terms of at least two and a half years. The captain, Davit Vadatchkoria, said the decision showed Finland stands for European values. Both sides may appeal. Yle notes Finnish authorities had suspected the tanker of belonging to Russia's shadow fleet.
