Tankers seized in Iran blockade head towards the US with oil worth almost $600m
Two very large crude carriers that US forces boarded near Sri Lanka in April, Tifani and Majestic X, were tracked off the coast of Brazil this week, Bloomberg reports. A third tanker, intercepted in the Indian Ocean in June, was seen heading west into the Atlantic after rounding the Cape of Good Hope. Each ship can carry 2 million barrels, and Bloomberg puts the value of their cargo at almost $600 million. Tankertrackers.com said the vessels were likely bound for the US. If they arrive, it would be the first Iranian oil to reach American shores since forfeiture cargoes in 2023, according to Energy Information Administration data. The Justice Department began forfeiture proceedings against Tifani and Majestic X in April.
