US says it disabled two Iranian tankers and destroyed a third

US Central Command said on 5 September that it had disabled two Iranian crude carriers and destroyed a third in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island, Al Jazeera reported. One of the ships was identified as the M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen. According to the report, the strikes followed Iranian ballistic missile attacks on US Navy warships, and the US military described the tankers as part of a network financing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its regional proxies. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said Washington would respond to attacks on its ships by "taking out three of yours".
