Guyana's aviation and utilities minister urges Caribbean states to act together against dark fleet false flags

Guyana's Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Indar, has urged Caribbean countries to work together to stamp out dark fleet operations, Kaieteur News reports. Opening the Caribbean Shipping Association conference in Georgetown on Monday, he called such operations a "black stain on maritime authorities" and warned that ships flying national flags were being used to carry weapons and sanctioned oil, which could damage the reputation of flag states. He said Guyana was among the countries affected. The paper notes that Guyana's Maritime Administration Department has said the tankers Majestic X, seized by US forces in the Indian Ocean, and Skipper, seized off Venezuela, were falsely flying Guyana's flag and were never on its register.
