US forces destroy five tankers linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guards

US Central Command said it destroyed five crude tankers associated with the IRGC on 8 September, four in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island, Iran's main export terminal. It described them as part of Iran's shadow fleet and said the strikes answered two failed Iranian missile attacks on a US warship; crews were told to leave the ships first. Three Iranian tankers had been disabled the weekend before. CENTCOM also said it had turned back 94 commercial ships accused of trying to breach the US blockade of Iranian ports.
