US sanctions Yemeni and UAE fuel importers it says fund the Houthis
The US Treasury designated two individuals and five entities in Yemen and the UAE that it describes as among the most significant importers of petroleum products into Houthi-held territory, and as money launderers for the group. Treasury says the Houthis earn hundreds of millions of dollars a year by taxing fuel imports with the help of Yemeni businessmen. A Treasury official said such networks underpin the group's operations and would be disrupted with every available tool.
