Ship manager V.Group says it lost 30 vessels to the dark fleet
V.Group, one of the largest ship managers, says it stopped managing about 30 tankers in the past year after they were sold to owners who failed its compliance checks, Reuters reports. Chief executive Rene Kofod-Olsen said the company had "lost 30 ships to the dark fleet" and warned that the risks would rise as the ageing vessels keep sailing loaded with fuel. Reuters estimates the shadow fleet carrying sanctioned oil from Iran, Venezuela and Russia at about 850 tankers. Harry Conway, chair of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee, said such vessels operate under the radar without accountability. V.Group manages around 300 tankers, according to the report.
