US sanctions two more LNG carriers linked to Arctic LNG 2
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned two more LNG carriers, Mulan and New Energy, and two shipping companies on 5 September over their links to Russia's Arctic LNG 2 project, S&P Global reports. Mulan is tied to India-based Plio Energy Cargo Shipping and New Energy to Gotik Shipping Co. Mulan, a 78,204-cubic-metre ship built in China, entered service this year and was sailing near Spain's Huelva anchorage. New Energy, built in 2007, is suspected of covert operations and of switching off its tracking signals, according to S&P. It is the second round of US sanctions on LNG carriers serving the Novatek-run plant within weeks.
