Most Russia-linked tankers sanctioned by US sit idle, Bloomberg finds
Most of the 40 tankers sanctioned by the US Treasury since October remain idle months after their designation, according to a Bloomberg analysis. Only one, the SCF Primorye, has collected a cargo since being listed, and it was heading to Asia. Bloomberg says 21 of the ships belong to state-controlled Sovcomflot and 19 are controlled by UAE-based Hennesea Holdings; ten Sovcomflot vessels have been renamed and reflagged to Russia, while five Hennesea tankers now sail under new identities with Eswatini flags. Idle vessels are clustered near Vladivostok and Nakhodka, in the Black Sea, in the Baltic, off China and South Korea, and at Port Said.
