US sanctions tanker Lady Sofia over spoofed transfer near Singapore

The US Treasury on 15 March designated the Marshall Islands-registered Vishnu Inc. and its vessel Lady Sofia for assisting the network of Sa'id al-Jamal, which it links to Iran's Revolutionary Guards Qods Force and the Houthis. Treasury says the recently sanctioned Mehle transferred Iranian commodities to the Lady Sofia near Singapore on 31 January while posing as a fictitious vessel, 'Amor', and falsely broadcasting a position in the South China Sea. According to the release, the Lady Sofia then carried the cargo to China. Under Secretary Brian Nelson said the US remained committed to disrupting the groups' attempts to evade sanctions.
