US blocks vessel Kohana over Iranian cargo worth more than $100m
The US Treasury on 27 February sanctioned the Panama-flagged vessel Kohana, its Hong Kong-registered owner Kohana Company Limited and its Marshall Islands-registered operator Iridescent Co Ltd. The Treasury says the ship carried Iranian commodities worth more than $100m for Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), destined for businesses in China. It accuses MODAFL of helping to deliver Iranian weapons, including drones, to Russia and to Iranian-aligned militias in the Middle East. Under Secretary Brian Nelson said the ministry runs schemes to fund destabilising activities. The designations were made under counter-terrorism authority Executive Order 13224.
