US Coast Guard cutter intercepts Iranian weapons shipment for Houthis
The US Coast Guard cutter Clarence Sutphin Jr. boarded a vessel in the Arabian Sea on 28 January and seized more than 200 packages of weapons that originated in Iran and were bound for Houthi-controlled Yemen, US Central Command said in a release on 15 February. The cargo included medium-range ballistic missile components, explosives, parts for unmanned underwater and surface vessels, military communications equipment and anti-tank guided missile launcher assemblies. CENTCOM said the seizure enforced UN Security Council resolutions barring such supplies to the Houthis. Its commander, Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, said the shipments were "in direct violation of international law".
