Leaked report finds at least 20 tankers crossed Danish straits without pilots in 2024
At least 20 tankers transited the Danish straits without Danish pilots in 2024, carrying about 10 million barrels of oil, according to a leaked report seen by the Financial Times and Danish media group Danwatch, The Maritime Executive reports. Only three of the tankers had insurance from a recognised Western provider. The Danish Maritime Authority confirmed it was detaining the Andromeda Star after its collision on 2 March; media reports identified the other ship as the general cargo vessel Peace. An opposition leader demanded an investigation and one politician called for compulsory pilotage, while the energy minister said the government was working with the EU on the concerns.
