Pioneer loads first Arctic LNG 2 cargo while spoofing its position, gCaptain reports

The LNG carrier Pioneer loaded the first cargo from Russia's sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project on 1 August, gCaptain reports, citing satellite images of the 2005-built, 138,000 cubic metre vessel alongside Train 1 on the Gydan peninsula amid heavy gas flaring. At the time its AIS signal placed it north of Norway, which gCaptain says shows the ship spoofed its position to reach the plant unseen. The outlet named two other carriers, LNG Dubhe and SCF La Perouse, that had been circling just outside Russian Arctic waters and may be involved in circumvention. Experts said an LNG version of Russia's oil shadow fleet would be harder to assemble because the LNG fleet is much smaller.
