US official says sanctions have stopped Arctic LNG 2 from loading a single cargo

US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt says American sanctions have halted Russia's Arctic LNG 2 project, gCaptain reports. Pyatt said Moscow had hoped to raise output in the first quarter of 2024 but had been unable to load "even one cargo". According to the report, the project suspended production in April, and gas output fell from 215 million cubic metres in April to 55 million in May, citing Reuters. Ice-class LNG carriers needed for winter Arctic operations remain at South Korea's Hanwha shipyard because of sanctions. Pyatt also pointed to sanctions on Vostok Oil, the Ust-Luga LNG terminal and the Yakutia gas project.
