Norwegian Maritime Authority says it detained Ya Qing Hai Yang over invalid flag registration and certificates

The Norwegian Maritime Authority has confirmed that it detained the sanctioned Chinese-owned heavy-lift ship Ya Qing Hai Yang after inspecting it on 13 October, High North News reported on 29 October. According to the authority, the ship, which had sheltered from bad weather in Andfjorden, had no valid flag-state registration or required certificates and will stay detained until both are put in order. The vessel was sanctioned over deliveries of power-generation modules to Russia's Arctic LNG 2 project. A second Chinese-owned ship, Jian Yang Cheng He, was inspected on 21 October and given five deficiencies to correct, but was not detained. High North News identified no earlier public case of Norway detaining a shadow fleet or falsely flagged vessel.
