Swedish Coast Guard boards and detains tanker Jin Hui off Trelleborg

The Swedish Coast Guard and police boarded the tanker Jin Hui in Swedish territorial waters south of Trelleborg on suspicion that it was unseaworthy, MarineLink reports. The coast guard said irregularities over the Syrian flag the ship was flying meant it was sailing under a false flag. Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said the vessel was suspected of belonging to Russia's so-called shadow fleet. The tanker is on EU and UK sanctions lists and was thought to be empty, with no clear destination. Maritime Executive gives its IMO number as 9430272 and reports that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also raised concerns about its insurance. MarineLink says Sweden had seized five vessels on similar suspicions in 2026.
