Tanker Qendil runs aground off Turkey weeks after reported Ukrainian drone strike

The Oman-flagged tanker Qendil ran aground off the Turkish island of Bozcaada on 4 January while sailing empty from Aliaga to Yalova, gCaptain reported. Turkish authorities sent the tugs KURTARMA-10 and KURTARMA-16 to the 249-metre vessel. According to gCaptain, the tanker had been hit around 19 December off the Libyan coast in a drone strike that Ukraine's SBU security service said it carried out, more than 2,000 kilometres from Ukraine. The outlet described the attack as the first Ukrainian aerial drone strike on a tanker it linked to Russia's shadow fleet at such a distance.
