Finland detains cargo ship Fitburg over cable damage and finds sanctioned Russian steel
Finnish authorities detained the St Vincent and Grenadines-flagged cargo ship Fitburg on suspicion that its anchor damaged a telecommunications cable between Helsinki and Tallinn, Euronews reports. The 132-metre ship was sailing from St Petersburg to Haifa with 14 crew. Finnish Customs said it was carrying Russian structural steel covered by EU sanctions and opened an inquiry, while police are investigating aggravated criminal damage and interference with telecommunications. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Europe remains vigilant against sabotage.
