Panama moves to strike off six tankers sanctioned by the UK
The Panama Maritime Authority has started fast-track procedures to cancel the registration of six Panama-flagged vessels sanctioned by the UK on 25 November, gCaptain reports. It is acting under Executive Decree 512, issued in October, and has already cancelled three registrations, with eight further cancellations in progress. Ramón Franco, Panama's director general of merchant marine, said the state had "a fundamental responsibility to protect the integrity" of its registry. The UK's 25 November action covered 30 tankers, taking its tally of sanctioned Russian tankers to 73.
