UK warns of forged origin certificates used to disguise Russian oil

The UK's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has warned that Russian oil is being passed off as non-Russian using forged or fraudulent certificates of origin, getting round the UK maritime transport ban and the G7 price cap, gCaptain reports. The advisory lists red flags, including certificates naming a country, or the outer port limits of a country, that does not normally produce or export oil, inconsistent documents, suspicious vessel behaviour and volumes out of line with past production. OFSI advises firms to check origin countries' production capacity, carry out due diligence and confirm who is authorised to issue certificates.
