North Korea may have received over a million barrels of Russian oil, Open Source Centre finds
North Korean tankers may have carried more than a million barrels of oil products from Russia since March if fully laden, against a UN cap of 500,000 barrels a year, according to an analysis by the UK-based Open Source Centre and the BBC reported by Seatrade Maritime. Loaded to 75%, the cargoes would total about 708,000 barrels. The analysis used satellite imagery, AIS data and patrol images; Reuters, reporting the same findings, says the tankers made more than 40 visits to Vostochny. At least 15 vessels made the run, including UN-designated ships such as the Yu Son, Kum Jin Gang 3, Chon Ma San, Sam Ma 2 and An San. Most are product tankers over 20 years old.
