Russian fuel transfers move to new spots off Greek islands after navy drills

Ship-to-ship transfers of Russian fuel have moved to new locations off Greece after naval drills displaced them from the Laconian Gulf, Bloomberg reports. The activity, about 1 million barrels a month of diesel, fuel oil and other products, has emerged near the Aegean islands of Lesbos and Chios and off the Italian port of Augusta, while transfers resumed less often in waters near the gulf. Greece began the exercises in May and on 14 November extended them to mid-March. Bloomberg says such transfers often involve tracking beacons being switched off and raise safety and environmental concerns.
