EU sanctions operator of North Korean tanker Paek Yang San 1 over Russian fuel shipments

The Council of the EU on 12 October added three individuals and four entities to its autonomous North Korea sanctions list, citing Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes and its ties with Russia. Among them is Paekyangsan Shipping Co Ltd, which the Council says operates the North Korean-flagged vessel Paek Yang San 1, used to carry refined petroleum products from Russia to North Korea in breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2397. The Council said the new listings target activities linked to the "arms-for-oil" trade between the two countries. Those listed are subject to an asset freeze, and the individuals to a travel ban. The EU's autonomous list now covers 80 individuals and 25 entities.
