Two UN-sanctioned North Korean tankers repeatedly seen off China's east coast, VOA reports
North Korean tankers Nam San 8 and Chon Ma San, both under UN sanctions, have repeatedly been seen off China's east coast, Voice of America reports. Citing MarineTraffic tracking data, VOA says that on 24 October Nam San 8 was near Xiaoqu Shan in the Ningbo-Zhoushan area, while Chon Ma San was near Tang Yu after moving south. Neil Watts, a former UN Panel of Experts member, told VOA the area is associated with illicit ship-to-ship transfers from North Korean vessels, and that such transfers appear to let the ships escape the effects of their designations. The US sanctioned both tankers in 2018. China did not respond to VOA's request for comment.
