Fourteen northern European states warn they will act against stateless and falsely flagged ships

Foreign ministers and officials of 14 countries around the Baltic and North Seas, including the Nordic and Baltic states, Germany, France, Poland and the UK, issued a joint statement on Russia's shadow fleet on 20 June. They said stateless vessels, including those falsely claiming a flag, have no responsible flag state and no right to freedom of navigation under UNCLOS. If ships fail to fly a valid flag in the two seas, the governments said, they will take appropriate action within international law, and they agreed to coordinate their national authorities more closely.
