Confiscated tanker Eventin may be costing Germany up to €8,000 a day off Rügen, Euronews reports

Keeping the confiscated tanker Eventin anchored off Rügen may cost Germany up to €8,000 a day, Euronews reports, citing an expert estimate published by the RND media group. The costs cover diesel for power, upkeep of technical systems, crew, and security and hazard-prevention measures. The state is advancing the money, and who ultimately pays depends on the outcome of the legal case. According to Euronews, the Federal Fiscal Court has expressed doubts about whether confiscating the Panama-flagged ship and its roughly 99,000 tonnes of Russian crude was lawful, partly because it drifted into German waters after an engine failure. No end date for the proceedings has been set.
