Four renamed LNG carriers, three of them once EU-listed, sail into the Kara Sea under Panama's flag, Barents Observer reports
Four ice-class LNG carriers previously operated by Mitsui OSK Lines have been renamed and entered the Kara Sea on 19 October, The Barents Observer reports. The ships, formerly called North Valley, North Moon, North Ocean and North Light, now sail as Oneiroi, Melicertes, Neleus and Aeolus, and moved from the Singapore to the Panama flag on 1 September. According to the outlet, they passed through the Bering Strait with newly painted names on 15 October and are expected to continue to the Gulf of Ob to load at Yamal LNG or Arctic LNG 2. The Barents Observer says the vessels are most likely linked to Novatek. Three of them spent about four months on the EU sanctions list in 2025.
