Sweden lifts detention of EU-sanctioned tanker Sea Owl I after seven months

Sweden's Transport Agency has lifted the operating ban it imposed on the tanker Sea Owl I in March, allowing the ship to leave Sweden, gCaptain reports. Swedish authorities boarded the vessel on 12 March and held it off Trelleborg over concerns about its seaworthiness and registration. It had been found falsely flying the Comoros flag, and an attempt in May to reflag it to Cameroon was also invalid; it is now registered with Equatorial Guinea, which confirmed this directly. The agency said the ship's certificates and crew documents were satisfactory as far as they could be verified. The tanker remains on the EU sanctions list, but the Swedish Coast Guard says it is not suspected of breaching sanctions.
