EU requires ships in its waters to file insurance details

The European Commission amended the Vessel Monitoring Directive to require all ships operating in EU waters, including those only passing through, to provide insurance information, The Maritime Executive reports. The step is aimed at shadow tankers carrying Russian oil, particularly in the Baltic. A Commission director-general said it reflects the EU's commitment to safer and more secure shipping.
