Explosions hit gas carrier Eco Wizard while loading ammonia at Ust-Luga

Two explosions about ten minutes apart struck the engine room of the Marshall Islands-flagged gas carrier Eco Wizard as it loaded ammonia at the EuroChem terminal in Ust-Luga on 6 July, Marine Insight reports. The hull was damaged, the ship listed and some ammonia leaked; all 23 crew were evacuated unhurt. Russia's transport ministry called the leak minor and the regional governor said there was no environmental impact. A consultancy cited by the outlet counted it as the sixth such explosion on ships linked to Russian trade in 2025.
