UK-sanctioned tanker Attica sails around Scotland instead of the Channel

The Aframax tanker Attica, sanctioned by the UK in November for carrying Russian oil, is sailing past Shetland rather than through the English Channel, Bloomberg reports, citing tracking data. The detour makes a voyage from the Baltic to the Mediterranean about two days, or 25%, longer. Bloomberg says it is the first tanker carrying Russian crude from the Baltic to take that route since the UK said in October it would challenge poorly insured ships. The vessel loaded about 730,000 barrels of Urals crude at Ust-Luga and appears bound for Vadinar in India, though it is signalling only Port Said.
