Sanctioned tankers carrying Russian oil fitted with nets, cages and tyres against Ukrainian drones, the WSJ reports
The Wall Street Journal reported on 31 October, according to summaries by Investing.com and LB.ua, that tankers carrying Russian oil are being fitted with nets, metal cages and rubber tyres to guard against Ukrainian drones. Photographs taken by Istanbul-based maritime analyst Yoruk Isik show at least 60 such vessels passing through the Bosphorus since August, and nearly all are under US or other Western sanctions for carrying Russian oil, the newspaper said. The structures surround engines, steering equipment and bridge windows, while tyres hung on the sides aim to stop drones reaching engines and rudders. Isik told the newspaper the measures showed Russia's fleet had lost control of the Black Sea.
