US licenses Russian diesel sales after Trump announces supply deal with Putin
The US Treasury has issued a general licence allowing the sale, delivery and import of Russian-origin diesel, including into the United States, after President Donald Trump said he had agreed a supply deal with Vladimir Putin. According to the Associated Press, Trump said Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, with larger shipments to follow. ANI reports that General License 135 runs until 7 April 2027 and does not authorise debits to US accounts of Russia's central bank, National Wealth Fund or finance ministry. The AP says the deal casts doubt on whether the administration will impose sanctions this month under a new Russia sanctions law that also targets the shadow fleet of tankers.
