US sanctions five vessels and insurer in Houthi financier's Iranian oil network
The United States imposed sanctions on 18 July on companies, individuals and five vessels linked to the network of Houthi financier Sa'id al-Jamal, S&P Global reports. The ships are Wanji, Oceanic II, Tirex, Mirova Dynamic and Kasper. Targets include Ascent General Insurance Company, which the US says insured sanctioned vessels, UAE-based Fornacis Energy Trading, and ship managers Barco Ship Management, Sea Knot Shipping and Alpha Shine Marine Services. According to S&P Global Commodities at Sea data, Kasper and Mirova Dynamic have carried 4.8 million barrels of Iranian crude to China since 2023. A State Department spokesperson said the US would use 'all available tools' to disrupt Houthi funding.
