Tanker carrying Russian crude resumes Baltic voyage after engine failure off Rügen
The Bahamas-flagged tanker Sled, carrying Russian crude, resumed its voyage on 19 October after engine trouble left it stationary in the Baltic Sea between the German island of Rügen and the Danish island of Møn, a German federal police spokesperson told Reuters. According to the Berliner Zeitung, the 2005-built ship was sailing from Primorsk to Skagen and drifted towards Denmark early on 18 October, and German authorities sent the emergency tug VB Bremen Fighter. Federal police observed two Russian naval vessels nearby; it is unconfirmed whether they were escorting the tanker. The paper says it is unclear whether the Sled is linked to Russia's shadow fleet, and that Greenpeace says it is not.
