Ukrainian sea drone strikes US-sanctioned Russian tanker SIG near Kerch Strait
A Ukrainian sea drone hit the Russian tanker SIG near the Kerch Strait early on 5 August, Ship & Bunker reports, citing Interfax Ukraine and Ukrainian military sources. The drone was said to carry 450 kg of explosives. According to reports on social media, the engine room flooded but the vessel was not in danger of sinking. The report says the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Navy carried out the attack jointly, and that the tanker was allegedly carrying fuel for Russian forces. The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned SIG in 2019 over support to Sovfracht, a company it said supplied jet fuel to Russian forces in Syria.
