Lloyd's Register to withdraw class from 21 Gatik tankers
Lloyd's Register has told India's Gatik Ship Management, which has become a major carrier of Russian oil since the invasion of Ukraine, that it will withdraw certification from 21 of its vessels by 3 June, Reuters reported on 25 May. The classification society said it withdraws class where authorities find vessels breaching sanctions. Gatik had already had to find new flags for 36 ships after the St Kitts and Nevis International Ship Registry deflagged them. The American Club told Reuters it no longer insures Gatik ships, and Russia's Ingosstrakh said it would not work with the company. Gatik-managed tankers carried 10 per cent of India's Russian oil imports in January–April, Reuters calculates.
