Ship-to-ship transfers of Russian oil hit record in February, S&P Global data show
At least 22 million barrels of Russian crude and diesel were moved through ship-to-ship transfers in February, a record and 3.8 million barrels more than in January, S&P Global Commodity Insights reported on 8 March, citing its tanker tracking data. Transfers off Kalamata in Greece rose 60 per cent on the month to 9.37 million barrels, and those off the Spanish enclave of Ceuta accounted for a further 4.4 million, giving European sites 71 per cent of the global total. About 5.8 million barrels were transferred off Yosu in South Korea. S&P says the receiving tankers mostly took the oil to India, China, Singapore and Malaysia rather than to banned European destinations.
