Greece extends naval drills that disrupted Russian oil transfers in Laconian Gulf
Greece's navy has extended for a sixth time the naval exercises in the Laconian Gulf that have hampered ship-to-ship transfers of Russian oil, Bloomberg reports. The drills, which were due to end on 15 November, will now run until mid-March, more than ten months after they began, according to a Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service notice. The gulf had become a hotspot for transfers between ageing tankers carrying Russian oil. Bloomberg says the transfers have since moved to other parts of the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and West African waters. Athens has presented the drills as a maritime safety measure.
