US sanctions two tankers in Houthi procurement action
The US Treasury sanctioned Houthi weapons procurement networks on 2 October, including Marshall Islands-registered Gemini Marine Limited and two crude tankers it owns and operates. Treasury says the Gabon-flagged Izumo is carrying petroleum products on behalf of the sanctioned Iranian Armed Forces General Staff, and that the Cook Islands-flagged Frunze is linked to transporting illicit Iranian oil. It says the network of Sa'id al-Jamal, a sanctioned Houthi financial official, has provided tens of millions of dollars of oil sales revenue to fund Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping. The action comprised seven designations in total.
