US sanctions seven LNG carriers under construction for Russian Arctic projects
The US Treasury has designated seven LNG carriers under construction, as part of measures against Russia's future energy projects. Four, the Sergei Witte, Alexey Kosygin, Pyotr Stolypin and Zvezda 044, are to be operated by the already-designated Sovcomflot, while three more are being built at the Zvezda shipyard, also under US sanctions. Treasury also targeted entities involved in the Obsky LNG, Arctic LNG 1 and Arctic LNG 3 projects, and suppliers including a maker of vessel sections for Zvezda and a manufacturer of cryogenic panels for LNG storage. It said the action followed commitments by President Biden and G7 leaders to curb Russia's future energy revenues.
